- ONE FAMILY 2 VINEYARDS
The Kandler family came from the sea before landing in Languedoc-Roussillon 30 years ago. At a time when few believed in its potential, the French-German family bought a remote vineyard in the Minervois region, between land and sea, close to Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi, both on UNESCO’s Heritage List. At the origin of Château Tourril is an ancient gallo-roman signal tower
located on the top of a hill in Languedoc proving the 2000 years history of the wine estate since roman Antiquity. The second generation of the Kandler family has now taken over to move towards organic production, worldwide distribution, and to extend its know-how in the selection of innovative wines from different terroirs.
Driven by its passion for French Southern wines Stephan Kandler meets Bertrand Hardy, an independent winegrower from the Rhône Valley and they decide to elaborate a common organic wine in 2016 on the Domaine des Pentelines vineyard, close to Avignon. After 3 vintages in common, Bertrand decides to retire and offers to Stephan to take over. Domaine des Pentelines, the 24ha organic jewel producing AOP Côtes du Rhône Villages Gadagne wines, on the same soils as the famous Châteauneuf du Pape, joins the family of Kandler Vineyards.
2 TYPE OF SOILS
The typicity of these 2 « terroirs » and 2 appellations are marked by History and the climate of Southern France, in particular the influence of the Mediterranean Sea. Our family know-how and common grapes add up to this geographical link enabling each wine to express the unique Taste of the Place.
A COMMITMENT
Producing certified organic wines is our commitment to respect the environment, with little or no inputs and low interventions during vinification. We are already following the lunar calendar and use handworks for most of our cultural and winemaking operations.
The next move is biodynamic certified production within 3 years. By preserving and developing biodiversity on and around our soils, we are creating the most balanced natural eco-system which will inevitably be found in our locally produced wines, olive oil and fruits.
INDEPENDANCE
We are proud and passionated of being an independant winegrower: a unique "entrepreneur" who plants, grows, harvests, transforms, packs and finally sells its own production himself notwithstanding natural hazards. Our local contribution to the economy, the environment and social actions generates a sustainable and resilient society.
Our wines are exported in more than 15 countries over 3 continents. They are regularly awarded in various competitions, major magazines and guides.
This is what it takes before our bottle comes to your table ! The sale of our wines at the right price faithfully reflects our commitments, natural risks (including global warming), permanent investments and irreducible production costs with a view to producing healthy & lively quality gastronomic products. We hope to share soon this love for wine which links us together and to Earth.
