- Description
- The story begins in 1288!
Since the 13th century the Constant family has been cultivating vines, their know-how passed from generation to generation.
“Our ancestors cultivated the vines in the traditional way, by plowing and respecting the environment. Today we apply these same organic farming techniques and our wines are certified AB by ECOCERT. »
In 1970 Raymond and Jeanne, who until then vinified their wines in small cellars (five in total) in the vineyards, decided to build a cellar in order to simplify the work and to be able to give more time to their cuvées; the Domaine Ray-Jane will be born at this time.
They then created the first cellar in Bandol made up of inox barrels to vinify their wine.
In order to have the optimal conditions for the vinification of their cuvées, they installed a refrigeration unit (air conditioning) and were therefore the precursors in France of this production method. Many French winegrowers subsequently took advice from the family concerning their know-how in the field of vinification in thermoregulated vats.
Their cellar is made up of French oak barrels between one and a hundred years old, to which are added a few barrels and half-muids for the Insolite cuvée. This wide range of containers allows them to structure their wine in different ways with more or less long wooden passages which allow them to create a unique wine in their image.
Their son Alain will join them in the adventure followed by his wife Anne. Between them they perpetuate the work and endeavor to produce quality wines, typical of the Bandol appellation in which they register their know-how. They will continue over the years to make the place attractive and pleasant and will develop the family museum created by Raymond (more than thirty thousand rooms dedicated to the wine world) in order to welcome passing customers or loyal ambassadors who love their wines.
Today and for several years now, the new generation, represented by their two sons Julien (vineyard manager) and Vincent (cellar master), is committed to continuing the story of Ray-Jane.
"Our vineyard shaped over time is made up of more than a third of century-old vines on about forty hectares of land staged in dry stone terraces (Provençal terraces) in a natural amphitheater that descends towards the Mediterranean Sea facing south. , made up essentially of Mourvèdre, the king grape variety of the Bandol appellation. The predominantly clay-limestone and Falun soils give wines full of finesse and elegance.
The plots of the estate extend over the municipalities of Castellet, Cadière d'Azur, Bandol, Sanary sur Mer and Beausset.
In addition to Mourvèdre, the Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Cinsault, Ugni Blanc and Clairette grape varieties are present in the production of our exceptional wines”.
