Information
- Description
- Tenuta Villa Bellini is a wine-growing estate, located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region, extending over six hectares of land, four of which are dedicated to the cultivation of vines. The land, consisting of a network of Eocene limestone and calcarenitic rock bases covered by a thin layer of soil, is devoted to precision organic viticulture, implemented with respect for the brolo, flora and fauna.
Precision organic viticulture involves minimal intervention in the vineyard, carried out with respect for biodiversity: the main soil nutrient system is green manure, irrigation is exclusively emergency irrigation, and organic treatments and fertilisation are only carried out when strictly necessary and only for vineyards that need them.
Four main indigenous vines of the area are cultivated at Tenuta Villa Bellini using this method: Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara. The vines cultivated using the vertical espalier [Alberello] and pergola systems grow in very narrow, high-density rows, which ensure a higher quality of grapes at the expense of a low yield per hectare and, at the same time, allow for exclusively manual farming.
Harvesting is done by hand through careful selection of the bunches of grapes. Only healthy and perfectly ripe grapes reach the cellar, while unsuitable ones are returned to the earth. Drying takes place naturally, with only the ventilation of the drying loft, so that each individual bunch of grapes can express its aromatic potential to the full. Fermentation is spontaneous and takes place through microvinifications with small quantities of grapes whose subdivision is marked by the harvest time. While in a barrel cellar composed of five-hundred-litre tonneaux and two-thousand-litre barrels of delicately toasted French oak, the wines are refined.
Each stage of vinification is carried out in the estate's historic cellar, under the constant supervision of Filippo Formenti, oenologist and responsible for coordinating the vineyard and cellar, and Enrico Nicolis, consultant oenologist. Both were students of Professor Roberto Ferrarini, an innovative oenologist who contributed to the rebirth of Amarone.
