- The Baumann-Zirgel Estate, located on the heights of Mittelwihr, spans 12 hectares of hillside vineyards. An independent winemaker and representative of the third generation, Benjamin Zirgel took over the estate in 2000. In 2003, he was joined by Valeria, who shares his passion and commitment.
The vineyard thrives on four iconic Grand Cru sites: Mandelberg, Schlossberg, Schoenenbourg, and Sporen, as well as four characterful lieux-dits: Streng, Schwenkel, Stumpfgasse, and Rimelsberg. Driven by a deep passion for nature, Benjamin and Valeria converted the estate to organic and biodynamic farming, achieving certification in 2016. Their approach aims to preserve the soil's balance to produce wines with depth, power, and purity.
The harvests are done by hand, followed by long pressings and carefully controlled fermentations with native yeasts. The wines are meticulously aged in stainless steel tanks, as well as in large casks, barrels, or clay amphorae. Each cuvée undergoes aging on lees before being bottled on the estate.
These high-expression wines are the result of the alliance between prestigious terroirs, an exceptional microclimate, and the passionate work of the winemakers.
